Be Positive:
Sanctuary Temperature-in order to avoid very expensive damage to the pipe organ and the grand piano, the air conditioning is to be set at 74 degrees minimum. Session approved this temperature setting several years ago. The only people that should be altering the thermostat would be the PPM Director or the Elder of the Month, so please allow us to preserve our beautiful instruments with your kind cooperation.
Tower Light-to make our beautiful church look more welcoming, please leave the Tower light on so it shines through the gorgeous stained glass windows at night. The tricky part is that ON is actually down and OFF is up. Thank you!
Graduates: Do you have someone graduating this year from high school, college, or beyond? Please share with us the following information, so we can celebrate together this wonderful accomplishment. Please email: jenniewoods1966@gmail.com. Information needed:
- Full name of graduate
- Where they are graduating from and what with (i.e.name of school and degree/focus of study)
- Post-Graduate plans (i.e. college, graduate work, job, missions, etc.)
Softball anyone? Through the Lebanon Parks Department. Contact Gretel in the office for more info.
Ever wonder why you bother cleaning out closets and basements? A stone slab recently discovered in Jerusalem proves that it is a worthwhile effort to clean closets and back corridors. For over two hundred years, a stone slab had been sitting, discarded and forgotten in Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Leaning against a wall in a back corridor, this slab had been overlooked by all but those who chose to redesign it with graffiti. Recent renovations of the church led someone to turn the slab around and discover elaborate looping ornaments on what had been the hidden side of the slab. Research was immediately embarked upon, and the stone slab was found to be part of what was once an altar in the church, dating very possibly back to 1149. Not only was this slab used in an altar, but a very beautiful altar at that. A unique decoration method was used, identified as cosmatesque, in which finely cut tiles of colourful marble are used to fill in circular engravings in stone. The altar would have been located at the apex of the sanctuary of the church. The eyes of every believer and/or pilgrim who journeyed to the church would have been on this altar. The priests and monks of the church would have done all the liturgy on the table of this altar. So . . . do you have a closet that needs cleaning? A corner of the basement you’ve been ignoring? A back corridor or a section of your garage you’ve been neglecting? You may discover a heretofore unknown treasure! It may not be an ornately decorated altar dating back to the twelfth century, but you never know … For two centuries, a slab lay against a wall, looking like no more than an insignificant piece of stone. Now it has been identified as a valuable piece of history. Do you ever feel like a discarded stone slab? Do you ever feel like once upon a time you were a part of something big, and now your status is relegated to a back corridor piece of rock? God has this word for you: “Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.” (Luke 12:7) You are valued, you are loved! (The preceding archaeological information was found in a newsletter from Archaeological Diggings. No.66, ay 2022.)
“Happy Birthday to you! We celebrate with you! We love you, and we know God loves you too!” Erin Selmier: 5/23/22; Bud Hunter: 5/24/22. Happy Anniversary to Amber and Phillip Morrison!
Interested in joining the prayer chain? Contact Phyllis Duff at (765)482-1485/ raduff2@att.net. Hymn referred to in following prayer: “Why Should I Feel Discouraged? (His Eye is on the Sparrow)”.
Dear Heavenly Father, Do we feel discouraged or lonely? May we remember Jesus is our portion and constant friend. When our hearts are troubled or burdened with doubts and fears, when hope within us dies, may we draw closer to You, closer to Jesus. May we remember Your eye is on the sparrow and You watch over each one of us. In Jesus’ name we praise and pray, Amen.
