Little Dresses for Africa:  There is a box in the church library in which you can put fabric or outfits for LDFA. There are also patterns available to use for sewing clothes for the children; they are attached to the poster-board sign leaning behind the box. These resources will remain available for you for the duration of this project. Donations are accepted and encouraged to assist in purchasing fabric, t-shirts, and other sewing supplies. Please make checks out to the church, with “LDFA donation” added to the memo line. Questions? Contact Debbie Crouse at (224)622-6383, or Gretel in the office. You can access the LDFA website at:  littledressesforafrica.com

Live and Learn with us on Saturdays! We are having such a fun time on Sunday mornings! A senior exercise class, with luncheon offered afterwards, is being conducted by Pastor Je. The exercise is done from a sitting position and you are welcome to do as much or as little as you can. The lunch is followed immediately by fun and light brain teaser activities. This coming Saturday will begin the Psalms study, led by Gretel, beginning around 12:30. She is in the process of ordering books, but if you did not place an order and would like one – no need to fret: she ordered extras. The projected cost will be $6.50 per book. We would like to share this experience with you as we live and learn and grow together. Contact Gretel in the office with your interest. For participation this Saturday, please let her know by Friday noon.

P.R.A.Y.E.R. R.E.Q.U.E.S.T.
We are continuing our consideration of the acrostic poem:

Pause                          Request/Release

Reflect                        Entreat

Adore                          Question

Yield                           Unite

Extol                           Enjoy

Remember                  Surrender

                                    Thank

Today let’s consider “P” for Pause. Last week I started in the middle of the word with “Y” for “yield.” When we yield we have to pause. A yield sign is not the same as a stop sign but we need to cease activity for both. We need to look both ways for both signs. When we pray, we may not habitually stop. We may pray on the run, which is perfectly well and good. Nehemiah prayed such a prayer. His king had summoned him and asked him pointblank what was bothering him. Nehemiah offered up a prayer-on-the-fly and in the next breath answered the king. It was a God-led opportunity that resulted in the rebuilding not only of the wall of Jerusalem, but a rebuilding of the peoples’ spirits as well. But there will be times when prayer requires a pause. Jesus often took time to set himself apart from his disciples and the crowds that followed Him and sought His Heavenly Father in prayer. I would imagine He paused before His Father at such times. Do we pause when we pray? Even if we are praying while washing dishes, or while driving (please keep your eyes open!), or while walking around the block or swimming a lap, we can open our prayer to our Heavenly Father and then stop. As if we are yielding at that yellow sign, we can pause and let the Lord speak to our hearts. Perhaps He will bring scripture to mind. Perhaps He will speak a word to our hearts. Perhaps we will enjoy a refreshing silence. The “P” could also stand for “presence”. When we pause in prayer, we have the opportunity to enjoy His Presence. Will you pause with me in prayer? Perhaps you will hear the Lord say:

Come, My sheep,

Sit at My feet.
I will meet your every need.
Believe Me when I say to you,
I love you;
I will see this through.

The following prayer is taken from the hymn “In the Garden”, by George S. Schuler and C. Austin Miles.

Heavenly Father, “I come to the garden alone while the dew is still on the roses. And the voice I hear, falling on my ear, the Son of God discloses: And He walks with me and He talks with me and He tells me I am His own. And the joy we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known. I’d stay in the garden with Him ‘tho the night around me is falling. But he bids me go; through the voice of woe, His voice to me is calling: And He walks with me and He talks with me and He tells me I am His own. And the joy we share as we tarry there none other has ever known.”

I thank You for the fellowship in the garden. I praise You that this fellowship is available any and every season. Whether the leaves on the trees are falling or buds on the trees are appearing, Your presence is faithful and true. Whether my step be slow and unsure or quick and confident, You step right beside me. When I am unable to walk through the garden, You carry me. When I am afraid and anxious or when I have lost my way, You invite me into the garden. You want to spend time with me. Forgive me when I neglect to spend time with You. Help me in my prayer walks with You to remember to pause and simply enjoy Your presence. When You speak to me, give me the ears to hear and the mind to understand what You say to me. Praise be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Jerusalem, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.” (Psalm 41:13)
