A fair amount of the library furniture will be moved out Thursday morning, the 19th. It will be going to a local resale shop. We think you’ll love the update.

Weekly Devotional: Falling
“Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

“And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word.” Luke 10:39

“And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks.” Luke 17:15,16

“And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, ‘Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.” Revelation 1:17,18

The leaves have begun to turn colors. Some of them begin to loosen their grip and slip to the ground. We are not yet at that point in the autumn season when the ground is littered with pieces of gold, rubies of red, and flecks or fire, but it’s coming. Little by little, the days approach when the colored leaves let go and collect at the feet of their tree. This year, I wonder, could this be a picture for us of a life of surrender and trust in our Savior?
As an image of solidarity, strength, shelter, protection, and provision, the tree can be a reminder for us of all we find in our Savior, Jesus Christ. The leaves that hang on the branches can be an image of each of us. As believers, we have become part of the family of God. (“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” John 1:12,13) As we find new life in Him, evidence of His life can be seen in blossoms and buds all over our family faith-tree. However, though we are now part of God’s family, we still live in a broken, sinful world. Strong winds blow and whip against us as we cling to our tree, Jesus Christ. Heavy rains fall and hail crushes us as we shelter against the solid trunk of our Savior. When the cold, ice, and snow of winter descend upon our tree, we can hide within the embrace of our Friend and Protector, Jesus. But perhaps one of the most beautiful pictures of our relationship to Jesus is when we surrender, when we let go.
I am not advocating letting go of Christ – by no means! “For to me, to live is Christ . . .” (Phil. 1:21a)  What I do suggest, recommend, invite, is a surrender of our fears, anxieties, worries, concerns, angst. If letting go of these allows us to fall at the feet of Christ, then by all means, let us fall. If to let go of these means to find peace at the feet of Christ, then by all means, let us let go. If surrendering our self or our plans means we can worship at the feet of Christ, find freedom at the feet of Christ, then may nothing stop us from that sweet surrender. Can we lay at his feet our past? Our wanderings? Our mistakes? Our dreams? Our present? Our future? I invite you to join me this autumn in a new kind of “fall”, a falling at His feet. Dear Heavenly Father, the following is our prayer today. Lord, here our prayer:

“At Your Feet” by Casting Crowns

Here at Your feet

I lay my past down, my wanderings
All my mistakes down and I am free

Here at Your feet

I lay this day down, not in my strength
But in Yours I’ve found all I need
You’re all I need

(Chorus:) Jesus, Jesus, at Your feet

Oh, to dwell and never leave
Jesus, Jesus, at Your feet
There is nowhere else for me
There is nowhere else for me

Here at Your feet

I lay my future down
All of my dreams
I give to You now and I find peace
I find peace

(chorus repeat)

Here at Your feet

I lay my life down
For You my King
You’re all I want now, and my soul sings

(chorus repeat)

‘Cause I am free (here at Your feet)

All I need (is at Your feet)
And I find peace (we’re at Your feet, we’re at Your feet)
And I am free (here at Your feet)
And all I need (is at Your feet)
I find peace (we’re at Your feet, we’re at Your feet)
We’re at Your feet, we’re at Your feet

Here at Your feet
I lay my life down
