Communion Sunday

Coming Sunday is Communion Sunday when we join the table of the Lord Jesus Christ to eat His flesh and to drink His blood as our Saviour instructed us at the last supper and in John 6 when Jesus said, “Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. Those who eat My flesh and drink My blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day; for My flesh is true food and My blood is true drink. Those who eat My flesh and drink My blood abide in Me, and I in them.”

The First Presbyterian Church traditionally has been serving American style baked bread and grape juice (sometimes cranberry juice). This Sunday, along with these traditional elements, the church will serve untraditional elements. Pastor Je will explain the reasons behind this. So come and listen, and learn more about the deeper meaning of the Communion.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

I believe God uses communities of faith to reach out to and support those who are in need of mental health care. So how can we as a church and people of faith, help those who are struggling with their mental health:

  1. Discuss mental health and trauma openly, using language suitable for the congregation and cultural context. Ministers and lay ministers can break the stigma by addressing these issues from the pulpit

  2. Maintain an accurate list of trustworthy community resources, ensuring referral information is available and known to the congregation and the community.

  3. Reach out with Christ’s love through friendship, especially to those who feel excluded and isolated, and welcome them into our church

  4. continue to talk about mental health and incorporate information and messages into publications, social media, and community events

In the New Testament, we see that, ‘Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness’ (Matt 9:35). I trust FPC will continue to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our community to bring His light and love. Thank you for the opportunity to bring awareness to and promote mental health during May. I hope we will continue to talk about mental health and support those in our church family and community who need our love, prayers, and help.

Photo Contest

The voting for the annual photo contest has begun. Those photos are being displayed on the wall right outside the sanctuary. Use the provided dot stickers to vote. Everyone has one vote. The last day of voting is Sunday, June 16th. On June 23rd during the Worship at the Park, we will announce the winner who will get a prize. On the sanctuary door, you can see two laminated photos, taken by Al McConnaha. These photos are not for the contest but in memory of Al McConnaha, who was the church photographer.

PPM Begins Next Monday

The PPM’s school year has ended but during the summer vacation, the PPM has a summer programme in June and July. Next Monday the PPM begins its June session which will last through Friday, June 28th.

Saturday Bible Study

We are studying the Hebrews which has deep theology, mainly Christology. Come to learn and discuss about the deep theology and the mystery in the book of Hebrews.

From June, the church will not provide lunch for the Bible Study, which means you need to pack your own lunch. But pastor Je will continue to provide brain teasers to keep up your brain health. But this coming Saturday, pastor Je will personally provide lunch—Korean style meal with cooked rice, bulgogi, and kimchi.
