Photo Contest Result

Our first annual photo contest with the theme of Flower concluded on the Father’s Day, June 16th. There were 26 submissions. We have two winners with five votes: Neal Crouse and Hannah Lee. The second place is Janet Landon with four votes. The third place with three votes is Casey Reynolds, Pam Dies, and Lisa Hutcheson. Those who got two votes are John Quinn, Arlene Quinn, Lynna Shaw, Jane Myers, Oliver Hutcheson, and Leanne Piper. All others (such as pastor Je) got one vote each. Presbyterians are very nice that there is no one left out without gaining any vote. The photo contest 2024 website is: https://www.lebanonfpc.org/groups-events/2024-photo-contest

Pastor Je’s Vacation

Pastor Je will be on vacation from Monday, July 1st through Monday, July 29th and coming back to church office on Tuesday, July 30th. He is flying to Korea with his son to see his mother (with dementia). Pastor Je is excited, and Samuel is excited. But Hannah is staying in Indiana, working an extra shift so that her son and husband can have luxury vacation.

Father’s Day Celebration

As we celebrated Mother’s Day with the carnation flowers, we celebrated Father’s Day but not with flowers. We assumed that guys don’t like flowers. So, we gifted the Fathers with the Titus Bakery gift cards.

Untraditional Communion

For our Communion in June, we had quite unusual and untraditional Communion elements of doughnut holes and coffee. It was to remind us that the God of Immanuel is with us not only when we are at church but when we are at work, drinking coffee and munching doughnuts. If you want to know more, you can read pastor Je’s sermon on Sunday, June 2nd at https://pastorje-lebanonfpc.blogspot.com/2024/06/presence-of-lord-in-communion.html

PPM News

We have been having so much fun this summer! Currently, we have 70 children enrolled and 10 staff members working. This month we have been learning about different Habitats. Traveling through the Ocean, the Rainforest, the Desert and this week the Arctic. The classes have been making playdough with sand, sand foam, painting with ice cubes, playing in fake snow and having fun learning about all the different animals that live in these habitats.

Every week we have been enjoying water play and the older classes walk to the library for Storytime. PPM will take a break next week and resume classes July 8th. When we return, the classes will explore Outer Space and Dinosaurs.

Happy Fourth of July!! God Bless, Miss Lori

Korean War Veterans

Since pastor Je is from (South) Korea, he is very grateful having Korean War Veterans in the congregation. The Korean War broke out at the dawn of Sunday, June 25th, 1950. Many brave men around the world came to fight for the freedom of those whom they had never heard nor met. As a way of saying thank-you to the Korean War Veterans, pastor Je took them to a Korean restaurant on Pendleton Pike on Wednesday, June 12th. At the restaurant, a gentleman came and thanked us recognizing the Korean War Veterans and paid for our lunch.

Lesley Klooz

After Gretel Magnuson quit, the personnel committee (Dennis Brannon, Jennie Wood, Nancy Kincaid) worked very hard to find the best Administrative Assistant (formerly Secretary), and they were successful. Please welcome Lesley Klooz who began to work at church from Thursday, June 20th as our new Administrative Assistant. She has wonderful and many experiences in office management. Lesley was born and raised in Lebanon. She grew up in this Presbyterian Church, and many of you may know her. Her office hours will be Monday—Friday, 8AM—4PM with one lunch hour. Please stop by to say hello to her. She is kind enough that she will not be offended if you accidentally refer her as ‘secretary.’ Her email address is office@LebanonFPC.org

Last Session Meeting at WAPC

Pastor Je has been moderating the session meeting of Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church in Crawfordsville since their pastor retired after more than twenty years of ministering and serving the church. They found an interim pastor who will begin from August, the July session meeting will be the last one which pastor Je will moderate. The interim pastor and the session will form a PNC (Pastor Nominating Committee) to find a permanent and installed pastor for them.

Worship in the Park

The annual Worship in the Park with Central Christian Church was on Sunday, June 23rd. It rained from the night before through early in the morning but thankfully the rain stopped slightly before the worship. We worshipped with the clouds covering us from the sun, and it was very pleasant experience. Margi McConnaha acted as a liturgist; Lisa Hutcheson played the postlude. Janet Landon and Margi served the communion (which is substituting the July Communion) with pastor Je and pastor Nathan. Photos: https://photos.app.goo.gl/u9fmTpSjpbK51yiw5

Faith Circle

The Faith Circle meets every second Wednesday of the month from April to October, at 1:30 PM at the church library. In July the date is Wednesday, July 10th.

What’s Different in July?

Since pastor Je is taking a month-long vacation, the following will change in July:

·        Benjamin Piper will preach for all four July Sundays.

·        No Communion in July since we had two in June (with Worship in the Park).

·        No visitations, no Saturday Bible Study, no Worship Team Meeting, no Gourmet Seekers in July.

Pastoral Emergency Contact

Pastor Je prays, and we all pray that nothing will happen during his vacation, but just in case, you may contact Rev. Alan Griffin who served this church before pastor Je began his ministry here. He knows us well and we all love him. He is quite good at timely responding and his email address is agriffin46526@comcast.net.

Independence Day

The Fourth of July is not just for the splendor fireworks, but it is the happiest day of the year for all Americans because it is the Independence Day of the United States of America. Do you know the Presbyterians played the crucial role in the Independence and the birth of this nation? Presbyterians played a significant role in the American fight for independence. Their strong belief in representative government influenced the development of democratic principles in the new nation. Many Presbyterian ministers, often referred to as the “Black Robe Regiment,” actively supported and inspired the revolutionary cause through their sermons (and thus most of the Presbyterian preachers were banned by the governors of the colonial states to enter). Presbyterian leaders, such as John Witherspoon, were instrumental in shaping the founding documents and guiding the moral and ethical framework of the emerging nation. Their commitment to liberty, equality, and justice helped lay the foundation for the United States’ enduring values. So, while enjoying all the fireworks, how about delving into the Presbyterian history in the independence of this country?

June Gourmet Seekers

The Gourmet Seekers met on Friday, June 28th at Luciana’s Mexican Restaurant on 86th street. There will be no July meeting, but in August we will meet at Klooz Brewz on the fourth Friday, August 23rd.
