Pastor Je’s Return

Pastor Je came back to Indiana after visiting his mother in Korea who is declining with dementia. He took Samuel but Hannah stayed. His mother who experienced steep decline in dementia failed to recognize her son, pastor Je but she recognized her grandson Samuel almost all the time. The grandmother and the grandson demonstrated the special bond with each other.

PPM Update

PPM had a successful summer session, welcoming in 13 new children and 6 new families. During the month of July we explored outer space, dinosaurs and had a lot of summer fun activities during the last week. Our older classes walked to Memorial Park for a picnic lunch and played at the park. Staff is preparing for the new year, cleaning, decorating classrooms and planning. We have a lot to do in the next two weeks, and I am always amazed when it all comes together for the first day. The anticipation of the new year can cause some anxiety not just for the children but for the teachers. Please continue to pray for the staff and children as the new school year approaches.

Blessings, Lori Rowe

Saturday Bible Study Resumes

While pastor Je was away, the Saturday Bible Study was paused. Now he’s back, the Saturday Bible Study will resume at the regular time and space: church library, 11:30AM. We are working on the Hebrews. Coffee and tea will be provided but you need to bring your own lunch.

Thank you Ben Piper

During pastor Je’s vacation, Ben Piper preached for all four Sundays in July. Thank you Ben for your wonderful message.

Communion Server Needed

We have Communion once a month, on the first Sunday of each month. We need elders to serve the communion. You can volunteer to serve if you are an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church of U.S.A. (PCUSA). If you are willing to serve, please put your name on the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board across from the church office.

Voice Actor for the Scripture Reading

We usually have two Scripture readings each Sunday, one from the Old Testament (traditionally read by the liturgist), and the other from the New Testament (traditionally read by the preacher). To make the Scripture come alive to us, we are dramatizing the Scripture reading whenever there is conversation involved in the Scripture readings. If you would help in making the Scripture readings more dynamic, please let Neal Crouse know on the Sunday of your choice.

Honoring the Graduates

On Sunday, June 30th, we honored the graduates. Henry Hutcheson, Ben Piper, and Craig Reynolds spoke about their future and plans on the podium. The special music by the Reynolds (or Goodnight) family made the worship service and the celebration more special filling the sanctuary with joyous singing.

BYOB

Don’t forget the BYOB—Bring Your Own whatever B—on Friday, August 9th at church library, 11:30AM.

More Secure

The church improved the security especially for the PPM with various alarm and security devices through Lalas Systems, this includes four big screen monitors with security cameras. Those screens are installed in the church office, PPM director’s office, fellowship hall, and PPM assistant director's office in the upstairs. If you have any questions or ideas concerning the safety and security, please let pastor Je or any elders serving actively in the session know.

Faith Circle

The Faith Circle meets every second Wednesday of the month from April to October, at 1:30 PM at the church library. In August, the date is Wednesday, August 14th.

August Gourmet Seekers

There was no Gourmet Seekers in July, and we resume it this month. The venue is Klooz Brews near the church across from the County Court and the Public Library. So you can park anywhere near the square and walk. It will be the fourth Friday of August, 23rd, at noon. (We regularly meet at church 11:30 AM but since we do not need to drive away, we will meet right at noon.)

Lots of Repairs

While the PPM is on break, there are multiple repairs are going on in the church building now. These include stained glasses, church office leaking, sanctuary flood light, upstairs leaking, sanctuary ceiling paintings.

Janet Landon is now Mrs. McConnell

Janet Landon and Bruce McConnell married on Friday, July 19th. Upon marriage, Janet’s last name changed to McConnell. You may think it is natural but there are many other cultures where the last name change upon marriage is not normal (or not even possible). For example, in Korea and in Quebec, it is illegal to change the last name due to marriage. No matter what the last name is, we bless the new couple for their happiness in the grace of Jesus Christ. Happily Ever After!
