Anniversaries
Fri. Sept. 19th: Rob & Nancy Williams’
Prayers and Updates
Margi McConnaha's grandson is studying in Paris, France and
we've been praying for his safety because of the violent riots in Paris as well
as elsewhere in France. Margi found that her grandson is living in London,
England for the month of September for the research of his Ph.D. thesis. So he
is safe and not affected by the riots in Paris. Thanks be to God!
Recently Sigmon Myers got his knee replacement surgery. Roy
Flanary is scheduled to have another knee replacement in October. Pray for Roy
that he can play tennis again after the recovery. Pray for Sigmon Myers he can
run and jump again like Six Million Dollar Man after the recovery.
Sound Board
Operator Needed
Neal Crouse is operating the sound board at the back of the sanctuary
during our worship services, this includes a PowerPoint slideshow and YouTube
online streaming. Neal and Debbie are going on a Caribbean Cruise in
October, and we need a volunteer to operate while he's away. Training will be
provided by Neal and the YouTube live streaming is optional. Neal will be away the
following Sundays; October 12, 19, and 26. Please let pastor Je or Neal know if
you'd like to volunteer.
Organ Concert
First Presbyterian Church will have an Organ Concert
to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the installation of the
church’s pipe organ. Please join us to enjoy the musical talents of Bud Hunter
and others. The concert is Sunday, September 28th beginning at
2:00pm with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall. This event is open to
the community so please spread the word!
Peace and Global
Witness
Peace & Global Witness is one of the four special
offerings of PCUSA, focusing on peace making and reconciliation, locally,
nationally, and globally. Quarter of this offering remains at our congregation
to support peacemaking efforts in our local communities. Another quarter goes
to the mid councils (Presbytery and Synod) for the peace making works in the
wider region. Half of this offering goes to the Office of General Assembly for
the reconciliation and peacemaking nationally and globally. To contribute, you
may mark your offering cheque or envelope "PCUSA," "Peace,"
or "Witness."
These Days
The booklets of These Days, the daily devotional by PCUSA
are ready to pick up in the sanctuary. This new issue is October through
December.
Rosh Hashanah
Next Tuesday Rosh Hashanah begins. Technically it begins
Monday evening since the definition of Jewish "Day" is from the
sunset to the next sunset. Rosh Hashanah literally means 'the head of the year'
or beginning of the year. Rosh Hashanah is not just the beginning of another
year, but the beginning of the Jewish High Holiday which ends with Yom Kippur,
the day of Atonement, the single most important day in Judaism. This season of
Jewish High Holidays is important to Christians since it is the prophecy of the
Lamb of God for the forgiveness of our sins. The period between Rosh Hashanah
and Yom Kippur is called "Ten Days of Repentance." So let us join our
Jewish brothers and sisters for the ten days of repentance and piety, devoting
ourselves to God holy and pleasing.
New Pipe Organ Dedication
Reynolds Associates and First United Methodist
Church (219 East 4th Street Bloomington, IN 47408) has
invited us to join them as they dedicate their new pipe organ with a free
concert by organist and composer Martin Ellis on Sunday, September 21st
at 3:00pm. A reception will follow the concert for anyone who would like to
attend.
Sharing Your
Musical Talents During Advent
If anyone is interested in sharing their musical talents on Sundays to
please email Lisa or see her at church. This can be vocal or
instrumental, individuals or groups, and music for the prelude, postlude, or
special music during the service for the glory of God. You don't have to
be Liberace or Pavarotti, just someone who is willing to praise God
through music!
