“Congratulations to you! We celebrate with you! Know that we love you, and God loves you too!”

Happy birthday to Abel Erwin, 4/12; Craig Reynolds, 4/13; Cyndy Gibbs, 4/15; Kitty Hill, 4/16; McKenna Reynolds, 4/16; Nancy Turner, 4/18!

East Street News: Ahh, the sweet smells and sounds of spring . . . flowers wafting their perfume on the morning breeze, birds tweeting in the trees, fresh tar being spread on the road, big machines crunching and schlepping up our road . . . Oh, goodness, a couple of those are not typical signs of spring! (Or are they? Let’s be honest – construction is a legitimate and full-blown season of the year!) East Street is under a bit of construction. A notice went out church wide via email last week and this is another reminder – There will be parking restriction for most of April for East Street. Paving will be done in sections, followed by stripe-painting and other minor road repairs. Please be advised that this affects both traffic and parking for the downtown area. Main Street and Meridian are still in use. When planning visits to the church, please include extra time in your trip. Thank you for your patience. If the road work near the church is done earlier than expected, we will let you know.

Adult Sunday School: Two more weeks to join the Sunday School, going through: Meeting Jesus at the Table: 9-10:15, Church Library.

Two Witnesses . . .
“Two by two they went into the ark . . .” (Genesis 7:9) . . . “Where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there . . .” (Mt. 18:20) . . . “And we are His witnesses to these things . . .” (Acts 5:32)  Confession: this is not a notice about gathering animals into the ark! (Although it is a nice time of year to visit the zoo! Field trip anyone?) We need two witnesses to sign the Baptism certificate from Sunday’s baptism. This can be anyone who was there at the service. Please contact Gretel in the office to arrange a time to stop by and leave us your autograph! Thanks so much!

A Sweet Way to Support PPM:
PPM is doing a delicious fundraiser withNothing Bundt Cakes’! Individually sized, made locally, variety of lip-smacking-good flavors, each little bundt cake is just $6. The funds raised will go towards purchasing new books for the classrooms. It’s a win-win for everyone: funds are raised for PPM, kids get new books, and you get yummy dessert treats! There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board outside the church office. Or you can share your order with Gretel over email. Please add your name, phone number, which cakes you would like and how many of each. Checks should be written out to Presbyterian Preschool Ministry with a memo that it is for the Bundt Cake Fundraiser. Cash is fine, too. (Exact change please.) DEADLINE: APRIL 27TH!

Options are:  Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Lemon, Red Velvet, White Chocolate Raspberry, Carrot, Confetti, Classic Vanilla, Strawberries and Cream, Snickerdoodle, Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookie

Flowers!
“Everything’s coming up roses!” Well, to be honest it is not necessarily roses, but it is flowers! “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” was a song written by Jule Styne (music) and Stephen Sondheim (lyrics) for the 1959 Broadway musical Gypsy. This song became one of Ethel Merman’s signature songs. It also became a commonly used phrase. What does that have to do with FPC? Have you taken a look around the building? If not, Pastor Je and I will take you on a little garden
tour. Imagine a cool breeze, a cheerful blue sky, gentle sunshine, sweet scents, and here we go:

Neighborly Invites: A couple invites have come to my attention which bring you opportunity to share with and bless our local community.

  1.           Shalom House is having a 20th Anniversary celebration: April 30, 2023: 3-4:30pm. At Lebanon Christian Church, on 610 W 250 N, here in Lebanon. If you are interested, please RSVP to shalomhousedirector@gmail.com. There will be light refreshments and the chance to hear all about what Shalom House is doing, while also celebrating their 20th year of feeding and encouraging the Boone County community.
  2.           Love INC is asking for help filling their pantry. Their pantry provides food for neighbors in a pinch, when Love INC GAP ministries and other local pantries are not open. Supplies are extremely low at this time, leaving them unable to help hungry neighbors who come to them for assistance. If you can spare some non-perishables, including food for those who do not have access to stoves and microwaves, please bring them to Love INC during their regular business hours. Thank you for your consideration and generosity.  www.loveincbc.org (765)482-615

PPM Update: We had a very successful Family Literacy Night and staff training this week. We had 87 people, about 25 families, attend Storytime with Mary Jo Huff . We are excited and looking forward to the next Family night later this year. Please join us for PPM Sunday, we will have cookies and lemonade after the service. Spring blessings ,Miss Lori.

Who is in the court?

“And the king said, ‘Who is in the court?’” (Esther 6:4)

When King Ahasuerus asked this question, it was Haman who had come into the court. Haman came with his own agenda, and it was all about pleasing self, gratifying self, honoring self. The king’s agenda did not include honoring Haman. At that moment, ironically enough, Haman entered the court seeking to kill the very man whom the king wanted to honor.

Lord, when I come into Your court, may I come with a heart desiring to please You. May I seek to show love, grace, faith, hope, and peace to others.

Haman sought to lift himself up by tearing down another. The king wanted to give honor where honor was due.

All honor and praise are due Your name, Father. May I lift my hands in praise and my heart in worship. When my heart is not right before You, Lord God, cleanse me and make me as new. Purify me.

Dream a new dream! Yesterday afternoon I turned on the radio and heard an incredible story. I wanted to share the encouragement and inspiration with you. Two ladies, 80 years old, decided it would be fun to travel around the world in 80 days to celebrate their 80th birthday. So they did! (Because of covid restrictions, they actually did this when they were 81.) They spent no more than $29 per night on lodging and did indeed travel around the world in 80 days. The radio host had this to share: “Do you find yourself saying, ‘I’m too old.’ Or, ‘The opportunity passed me by.’ Rubbish! . . . There is always time to dream a new dream, set a new goal.” Do you have a goal you long to achieve but thought the opportunity had passed you by? Do you have a dream you had already buried? Resurrection is a springtime theme. Perhaps we can move it beyond Jesus’ grave and into our own lives. What new birth is God stirring in you today? Perhaps you need to join me in telling those doubts and excuses: “Rubbish!” Would you like to join in an 80 day challenge? “80 Days to Dream”. What would this look like to you? Share with Gretel at gretel@lebanonfpc.org Suggestion: prayer focus. Take it to God, talk about it with God, receive peace and direction from God. From Jules Verne, Around the World in Eighty Days: “Anything one man can imagine, other men can make real.”

Heavenly Father, Would You ask us today, "Who is in the court?" Who is ready to serve? Who is willing? May we each answer, "Here I am." We may have come into Your presence with something else in mind. We may have entered Your court with our own agenda, but it is Your agenda that prevails. What would You ask of us, today, Lord?  Amen.
