The Caring Center
Did you know that the number of people living in food
insecure households in the United States in 2023 increased to 47 million,
including 14 million children, according to a report released on September 4,
2024, by the U.S. Department of Agriculture? This has been an increase from 44
million, including 13 million children from the previous year. I’m sure it has
only increased over the last couple of years since this report came out.
Below is a list of their current food item needs,
please consider donating this weekend to help our neighbors in need.
Gourmet Seekers
The Gourmet Seekers are meeting Friday, May 30th
at 12pm. We will try Vietnamese food at “What the Pho” (7280 Michigan Road,
Indianapolis, IN). It is a 30 minute drive from the church and carpooling is
highly recommended.
Malawi Project
Dick
Stephens with the Malawi Project is in need of a building to sort, store and
ship items. The current location is no longer available. In order for this
ministry to continue, he needs another location before September. Janet
McConnell offered to call local churches to get the word out and see if any can
help.
If
you have other church contacts or a lead on a location, please let Janet know
or contact Dick. There has to be a place to rent or use for this project to
continue. They send about 3 shipments a year from Lebanon. Which is around
320 million dollars in aid to Malawi over the past 32 years.
Building
needs are below:
·
A space about 40 x 40 to pack and
prepare the pallets for shipment.
·
Concrete floor as we have a forklift.
·
Overhead door so we can get the
pallets out to the trailer.
·
Good driveway so a semi can back up to
the door for loading.
PPM News
It's hard to believe that we are wrapping up the school year.
This year has been a busy but fun and exciting experience. In August we
welcomed 90 students and 18 staff members in the building. We have served
over 16,000 lunches this year, WOW! That is a lot!!. We have learned
to count to 100, learned fire safety skills, celebrated birthdays, we have had
many dress up days, art projects, learned to be a good friend and most of
all these 90 kids this year have learned that each one is loved by Jesus. We
handed out 44 new Bibles this past Sunday. As our new friends were
receiving these bibles I heard other children saying, " I have that at
home" or "or that book is like mine". Since we started this
tradition of handing out Bibles about 13 years ago we have given out
anywhere from 45-60 Bibles each year. I am so thankful that we are able to
continue this tradition for the children at PPM. As the year comes to an
end, I will cherish the relationships made with parents and children
that we have created this year. I will also be so very thankful for the amazing
staff, of hard working and dedicated individuals who have made an impact not
only in the lives of the children but mine as well.
Blessings, Lori Rowe
Pentecost Offering
After Easter through Pentecost Sunday, we are collecting PCUSA’s another
special offering, Pentecost Offering.
This offering unites us in a church-wide effort to support young people
and inspire them to share their faith, ideas, and unique gifts with the church
and the world. Psalm 71 testifies that a foundation of faith established during
childhood helps ensure lifelong faith and service. The patterns and lessons
established during these formative years continue to bear fruit throughout a
person's life. By receiving the Pentecost Offering, you are nurturing the faith
of children, youth, and young adults.
· 40% is retained by congregations to support work with at-risk children,
youth and young adults in their local community.
· 50% supports ministries with youth and young adults.
· 10% supports child advocacy/children at risk.

regular Communion on the first Sunday of each month? Please sign up on the
bulletin board outside the church office or contact pastor Je. By the session’s
approval, you don’t have to be an ordained elder to serve the Communion. June
