Father’s Day DQ Gift Card
On Father’s Day, we gave
away the Dairy Queen gift cards to all men of faith. We appreciate all the
faithful fathers for reflecting the image of our Father God to their children.
Big Day
Sunday, June 8th was a very
big day. We had the Annual Meeting, getting all the reports from the committees
and clusters. We thank all the session members and the committee chairs for
doing wonderful work for our members in this church of God.
Then we heard from our
special guest speakers, Tom Fagan and Susan Bennett from the Indiana United
Methodist Children’s Home.
After the worship service,
we had our first Communal luncheon of this year with fried chicken from Kroger
and yummy dishes from our members. We thank Nancy Kincaid for preparing and organizing
this communal luncheon.
Stratus Building Solutions
As it was included in the
Annual report, our previous janitor, Ruth Deem, resigned and for a while we did
not have a cleaning staff. PPM and the session decided after a long run to use
a cleaning service, instead of hiring another janitor. The Stratus Building
Solutions began on Tuesday, June 10th. They clean 3 times per week for PPM and
2 times per week for the church. We hope the church and preschool’s cleanliness
will meet our standards.
PPM
We have had a lot of
fun this summer, and excited to finish the summer with fun books from Laura
Nemeroff. In June, we visited the library for story time, had a lot of fun with
water play, and reading and activities from
fairy tales.
In June we also
learned about Random Acts of Kindness and paying it forward; a continuous
outreach from the Hammerle family. Amy and Rick lost their daughter Megan in
her freshman year at Depauw. Megan was exposed to Histoplasmosis a rare form of
meningitis. Megan graduated from Lebanon in May 2014, was band member, ran
cross country and worked at Dairy Queen. One day while working, a car paid
for the next order (a random act of kindness). This act of kindness went on,
and she witnessed this for the next 30 cars on that day. To honor Megan's
memory each year on her birthday the family chooses one group to Pay it Forward
too, and this year PPM was the recipient of that special honor. Amy brought in
popsicle that day for all the PPM kids. This was an extra special treat for
grandson Oliver who attends and daughter in law Miss Natalie who is our
Spanish/music teacher.
This was a good
reminder of how to live each day to the fullest and always take time to pay it
forward.
Enjoy the cookouts,
fireworks and parade! Happy Fourth of July

Meyer Twins
Congratulations to William
and Toby Meyer
The twins are the sons of
Todd and Mary Frances Meyer and grandsons to Marylynn Boatright. Both boys were
on the track team with emphasis in the 1800-meter run. Most of their
high-school career was brotherly love competition in this event placing
1st and 2nd place most of the time and swapping the first-place spot back and
forth.
They will be heading to
Indiana University this fall.
Tyler is planning on
studying finance and William will pursue a medical degree.
Please keep them in your
prayers as they start this new venture .
Congratulations
Meyers boys may God bless you in the years to come.
Worship in the Park
The annual joint worship
with Central Christian Church–Worship in the Park–was not in the park but at
the Central Christian Church. Roy Flanary went to the park the day before
(Saturday) to check the place and found that the bandstand area was flooded. And
there was a heat advisory for Sunday of our Worship in the Park. Due to the
hostile environment, we switched the worship location to the Central Christian
Church. The pitch-in luncheon was after the worship service.
Remembering Heroes
This June 25th marks the
75th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War. On Sunday morning, June
25th, 1950, North Korea—backed by the Soviet Union—launched a sudden and
unprovoked invasion of South Korea. The entire peninsula was quickly engulfed
in flames. Cities were levelled. Families were torn apart. Hope was nearly
extinguished.
But from across the ocean
came an extraordinary response. Brave men from the United States, Canada, and
many other nations volunteered to fight—not for territory, not for conquest,
but for the freedom of people they had never met, in a land they had never
seen. They fought, they bled, and many gave their lives to protect strangers in
a distant country. Because of their sacrifice, South Korea rose from the ashes.
And today, it stands as a free and thriving nation.
On June 25th, pastor Je
visited the graves of three of those heroes from our own congregation—John
Quinn, John Morton, and George Morton—who served during the Korean War and have
passed away in recent years. Though they died of old age, they lived as men who
once stood in the fire of war and carried its memory for a lifetime. I stood at
their resting places to pay my respects, to offer prayers of thanksgiving, and
to honor the legacy they left behind.
As a Korean-born pastor now
serving in this land, I carry in my heart a profound sense of gratitude for
what these men and their fellow soldiers did. I owe my freedom, my education,
and even my ministry to their courage and sacrifice. And I want us, as a church
family, to remember them—not only on anniversaries, but as part of our shared
story and ongoing prayers.
Let us never forget the
cost of peace. And let us continue to honor those who paid for it.
Rev. Griffin Preached
Rev. Alan Griffin, who used
to be the bridge pastor before pastor Je, came and preached on Sunday, June
1st, also presided over the holy sacrament of communion.
Gourmet Seekers
The Gourmet Seekers met at Switch
Track on Friday, June 27th. The next gathering location is TBD. We
hope you join us in August!
Bud Hunter Accompanying
Lisa Hutcheson will be
travelling in Europe with her family, and thus will miss the two Sunday worship
services of June 29th and July 6th. For those two Sundays, Bud Hunter will come
and play the organ accompanying our worship songs and music. Safe travel, Lisa!
And thanks to Bud.
Pastor Je on Vacation
Pastor Je will be on
vacation in July, visiting his mother with his family. During his absence,
Benjamin Piper will preach for the first three Sundays, and Rev. Stuart
Robertson (retired PCUSA minister in Lafayette) will preach on Sunday, July
27th. Fun fact. Rev. Stuart Robertson preached at our church one of the Sundays in May 1986 as
the neutral pulpit. Neutral pulpit is one of the pastoral call processes.
Before the PNC introduces the pastor to the congregation, the candidate
preaches at another nearby church and only the PNC members go and listen to the
sermon. If they are happy, then they may proceed and introduce the candidate to
the congregation.
Cancelled Events
Due to pastor Je’s absence,
there are a few events cancelled:
- July Communion. Since we already had
another communion during the Worship in the Park, the session decided not
to have the regular communion on the first Sunday of July.
- Weekly Bible Study. There will be no
Saturday Bible Study. It will resume on Saturday, August 2nd.
- BYOB and Gourmet Seekers.
We will skip the BYOB and the Gourmet Seekers in July.
